Exploring the ephemeral past of Chinese entertainment from Hong Kong, the U.S.A., and around the world: vaudeville pioneers, flappers, aviatrices, burlesque dancers, hula hoopers, movie queens, sex bombs, jade girls, tomboys, pin-ups, sour beauties, girl jocks, swordswomen, and go-go girls.
And re Connie: were you inspired to put up a(nother) photo of her after reading my "Colourful Youth" viewing account, duriandave? If so, yay yay re that! :D
-- Dennis, yeah that photo really captures the sincerity and sweetness that made her the perfect jade girl.
-- YTSL, actually it was another swordswoman, who I'm fervently researching right now, who inspired the post. But I was very happy to read your account of the screening. :)
Cool to hear about Polly being your childhood heroine! I don't think I knew that before.
-- Ed, I love these two shots because, except for the traditional *male* swordsman outfits, they are essentially pin-ups and quite atypical from the usual posturing with sword.
BTW, that other swordswoman I'm researching is evidently also a favorite of yours. In a review at HKMDB you describe her as having a face that "could easily have launched a thousand ships"! ;)

Nice shots, duriandave! Any idea of the years these shots were published?
I'm glad you're still hanging around yet! :o)
Glad you liked 'em, Brother Fang! The shot of Polly is probably from the late 60s or early 70s, and the one of Connie from the mid 60s.
That's a really great pic of Connie! She looks positively charming. :D
Aaah, Polly... my childhood kungfu heroine! :)

Both of them are delightful--the poses, the costumes, everything simply works. I have been a fan of Polly for a long time.
Always nice on those occasional occasions when "Soft Film" pops up on my Google reader.
