Exploring the ephemeral past of Chinese entertainment from Hong Kong, the U.S.A., and around the world: vaudeville pioneers, flappers, aviatrices, burlesque dancers, hula hoopers, movie queens, sex bombs, jade girls, tomboys, pin-ups, sour beauties, girl jocks, swordswomen, and go-go girls.
Very nice. And just in time for Faye's return from semi-retirement back to the stage, as she will have a series of concerts in China soon. Those of us who are her most loyal fans --the "Fayenatics" -- cannot wait to hear her sing again. Hopefully, a set of concerts in Hong Kong can be worked out as well.
-- Hi Roth! She's one of my favorites too. I really love this song and was pretty psyched to find this brilliant MV (which I've been watching addictively the past couple of days).
-- Hey John! Will you be attending any of Faye's shows? If so, come back and post a report. :)
I thought I was listening to the Cocteau Twins for a minute. So much so that I had to Google "Faye Wong Cocteau Twins". WOW...had no idea they actually collaborated. Time to hunt this album down. Thanks!
-- sbk, yep she's truly one of a kind. I probably spent a good hour watching Faye's videos on YouTube this weekend. It was fun reminiscing and discovering songs I hadn't heard before.
-- Tim, it's one of my favorites. You won't be disappointed! Faye also covered two Cocteau Twins songs on a previous album.
It probably depends on whether she adds shows, such as in HK, Singapore, etc., to this tour. If I do attend, I will be sure to come back to your blog and give a report.
I did get to see her last concerts in HK in December 2003, before she went on her long hiatus. Upon arriving in Hong Kong from San Francisco, I can still remember checking into my hotel and having the clerk ask me if I was in town on business or as a tourist -- and the look on her face when I pulled out my concert ticket ! The clerk couldn't believe someone would fly 10,000 kilometers from the other side of the world for a two-hour concert with Faye !
If you haven't completely exhausted the Youtube search engine by now and found all of her videos, here are two of my favorites:
Love Letter To Myself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhMcu6UL2NA
And while I am at it, as you probably know, Teresa Teng was one one of Faye's biggest inspirations, and Faye covered a few of Teresa's songs. One of the most well-known is "Wishing We Last Forever", as seen here from Faye: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HPUgFXIdg8
and then as seen here from the original Queen herself, Teresa Teng: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ARh3Xn0060&feature=related
That last link is really quite special, and I hope you (and your readers) enjoy it. It is really quite a rare and precious gem to be found on Youtube. Not only is Teresa seen here at her peak of popularity, but the song's composer, Liang Hongzhi is also seen in that video, accompanying Teresa on piano. Sadly, he, like Teresa, died far too young, at age 45.

Wonderful, wonderful. She is such a wonderful singer. You've inspired me to rewatch some of her older vcds I've had for 8-10 years.
