Let's Play Stardolls!

A few readers were game enough to submit some of their creations after wasting precious moments of their lives at Stardoll. First up are Maggie Cheung and Zhang Ziyi, dressed up courtesy of ewaffle, who specializes in observant and amusing fashion commentary at his blog Favorite Hong Kong Actresses. He's dressed Maggie (one of his "favorites") much as she might look in real life; while for Zhang Ziyi, he's imagined an outfit she might have worn if Zhang Yimou had made a Category III wuxia film — House of the Naked Killers, anyone?

Next on the runway are Faye Wong and Maggie, both dressed in a funky mix-and-match mode by sbk and dleedlee (respectively). sbk is an Asian movie fan and Holga mistress who loves to double expose at her blog Pictures, Thoughts and Comments. dleedlee is the unsung hero who trawls the World Wide Web for all the latest Chinese movie news and gossip, which he presents fresh daily on his blog Roast Pork Sliced from a Rusty Cleaver.

Finally, here's Bai Ling dressed by me. Although she is much maligned for her nip slips and funky outfits, I have a soft spot for kooky individualists like Miss Bai. I'm not exactly a fan (although I loved her in Dumplings), but I will always stand in her defense.

Anyway, many thanks to dleedlee, ewaffle, and sbk for sharing their outfits! If anyone else wants to join the fun, send me your looks and I'll post them next week.

Hi duriandave --

Sorry but bwahahaha at the thought and very vision of you guys playing Stardoll! At the same time, thanks for being so game to share your creations. They are quite interesting and very amusing. :)

Ahahahhaha!

My friends are laughing at me right now, but I'm so going to send you my own stardoll creations. We need to petition Zhang Yimou to make House of the Naked Killers, though. That's got to be a guaranteed hit.

-- YTSL, I'm not trying to entice you, but just so you know: Takeshi Kaneshiro is also available for dressing. ;)

-- GoldenPigsy, thanks for braving the ridicule of your friends! Very cute outfits, btw.

-- And to all the rest of you, don't be shy, give it a try, and send me your creations! :D

Hi again duriandave --

After what you said I had to check and bwahahahahahaha some more... briefs Takeshi. Hmmm, if they had Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Tony Leung Ka Fai, would the former be in briefs and the other in boxers (like it seems to be the case in their movies)? :b

hi duriandave and ytsl,

Takeshi Kaneshiro has really cool outfits to choose from while Jackie Chan has boring t-shirts and slacks. I did notice that Takeshi Kaneshiro does appear in briefs while Jackie Chan's figure is fully clothed....

-- YTSL, too bad there's not a Brigitte Lin doll. I think that might actually tempt you to try it out. ;p

-- sbk, that's funny about Jackie... what modesty! BTW, didn't he do a handstand in his briefs in Rumble in the Bronx?

dave--one million thanks for finding and posting Stardolls.

It is becoming more known that all of us manly men like to dress up the digital versions of our heroines.

It does have a few shortcomings: too many "ethnically typical" outfits, at least for the Chinese actresses I looked at;

not enough accessories or jewelry;

worst of all (or at least strangest of all) is visiting a site that claims to have over 60,000,000 members and knowing that 59,999,900 or so are probably girls under 13!

But what the heck--once I am happy with my Gong Li stardoll (pink hair, knee length boots) I may post it on my blog.

Strange days!

Hi once more --

I don't wanna see Brigitte undressed. So... but you know what? I did check out a couple of favorite Western actresses and while Sigourney Weaver's Stardoll started with bra and briefs, Meryl Streep's was conservatively attired to begin with like sbk reportted about Jackie Chan's! :D

-- Ed, I guess we're part of an elite group of men. Looking forward to to seeing your perfected Gong Li stardoll. ;D

-- YTSL, I never would have thought they'd have a Meryl Streep stardoll. Now I'm curious which celebrities start off fully clothed and which don't.
